Welcome to the Star of the Sea

Tranquility by the sea

Located on the ocean, just a five-minute drive from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Star of the Sea offers a mix of oceanside living with the convenience of city life, nature trails, and relaxation.

We are conveniently located at the York Redoubt Park entrance. Stella Maris, or Star of the Sea, was purchased privately in 2012 and lovingly restored by Fosterbuilt Construction over a period of two-years.

Most areas were custom designed and meticulously completed by Thomas Foster himself. The building was created in 1846 and stands proud to this day.

A retreat from the world

This is a true retreat for artists, retirees and couples.  During the summer months, be treated to spectacular harbour scenery that includes cruise ships, sail boats, submarines, lobster fishing boats, whales and huge cargo ships.

Convenient walking paths and beautiful views are right outside our door. Treat yourself to a dip in the heated pool overlooking the ocean and the Halifax harbor while enjoying a relaxing glass of wine with your partner.

A venue for boutique weddings or a special get-aways

With its spectacular views and immaculate design, Star of the Sea is a beautiful setting for an intimate wedding.

The wedding setting is very personalized, private and exclusive.

Couples can exchange rings and vows on the deck overlooking the historic Halifax Harbour and McNabs Island. Guest numbers are limited to 25.

But we enjoy more than just weddings, Star of the Sea is a perfect get away for many special occasions: a girl’s weekend, a special anniversary, a venue for the wedding party or family reunion.

Introducing your hosts: Eva and Tom

We welcome and share with you our Bed and Breakfast located in the National Park at York Redoubt. Tom is a builder, originally from the Eastern Townships of Quebec, and Eva is from Germany. Eva is also a Registered Massage Therapist and graduated from Georgian College in Ontario several years ago.

The building was purchased in 2012 and it has taken Tom over two years to create and complete the vision he had for this incredible building. We hope everyone staying at “Star of the Sea” will share our excitement for this lovely building and the natural wonders around it.
